SOP: Setting Up Passkeys for Pella Mid Atlantic

Overview

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the steps for creating and registering passkeys for Pella Mid Atlantic users. Passkeys provide a secure, passwordless authentication method using biometrics (Face/Fingerprint), device PIN, or a security key.

Method 1: Set Up Passkey via Microsoft Account Security Page (Web)

  1. Access the Security Info Page
     Sign in to your Microsoft account and go to one of the following:
    • https://account.live.com/proofs/manage
    • https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo
  2. Add a New Sign‑In Method
    Select “Add a new way to sign in or verify”.
  3. Choose Authentication Method
     Select one of the available options:
    • Face recognition
    • Fingerprint
    • Device PIN
    • Security Key
  4. Follow On‑Screen Prompts
     Complete the registration process. You will be prompted to save the passkey to one of the following:
    • Your device
    • Microsoft Authenticator app
    • A physical security key

 

 

Method 2: Set Up Passkey Using Microsoft Authenticator (Mobile)

  1. Install and Open Microsoft Authenticator
     Download the app on iOS 17+ or Android 14+, then sign in using your Microsoft account.
  2. Add Your Account
     Navigate to:
    Settings → Accounts → Add account → Personal Microsoft account
  3. Create a Passkey
    Select “Sign in with passkey” or “Add a passkey”, then follow the prompts to register using your device's biometric authentication or PIN.
